UFC 227 Live Results
Two title rematches, including one between former teammates and now bitter rivals, headline UFC 227, which takes place from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
In the main event, TJ Dillashaw, now in his second reign as UFC bantamweight champion, makes his first defense against Cody Garbrandt. The history between the two is full of bad blood, as they were formerly teammates at Team Alpha Male. But following coach Duane Ludwig’s departure – whom Dillashaw is very close with — Dillashaw followed him, causing Team Alpha Male members — including Garbrandt and team founder and UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber — to consider Dillashaw a traitor. The bad blood really showed throughout the 25th season of The Ultimate Fighter, which saw Dillashaw and Garbrandt coaching opposing teams.
Dillashaw defeated Garbrandt for the bantamweight title back in November at UFC 217. This was Garbrandt’s first title defense after winning it from Dominick Cruz at UFC 207 in December 2016. The UFC 217 loss also gave Garbrandt the first loss of his professional career. Dillashaw now holds a three-fight win streak since his first title reign ended at the hands of Dominick Cruz in January 2016. Dillashaw gained wins over Raphael Assuncao at UFC 200 and John Lineker at UFC 207 before reclaiming the title.
In the co-main event, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, the sole flyweight champion in UFC history since the title’s establishment in September 2012, looks to extend his record of most consecutive successful title defenses in UFC history. He’ll look for his 12th straight defense when he faces challenger Henry Cejudo. Cejudo previously challenged Johnson at UFC 197 in April 2016, losing via TKO in just under three minutes.
Johson is currently on a 13-fight win streak. Cejudo, meanwhile, rebounded from a 0-2 2016 with two wins in 2017, including a second-round TKO of Wilson Reis at UFC 215 and a unanimous decision over Sergio Pettis at UFC 218 — the former of which earned him a Performance of the Night bonus.
