UFC 228 Live Results

Despite the disappointment of losing its planned championship co-main event, UFC 228 takes place tonight from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

In the main event, Tyron Woodley defends his UFC Welterweight Title against Darren Till, who has quickly risen up the promotion’s welterweight rankings. Watch the UFC 228 weigh-ins in the video player below:

Woodley comes into this contest unbeaten in six straight and going 8-2-1 since joining the UFC following the 2013 Strikeforce merger. Woodley won the title with a first-round knockout of Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 in late July 2016. That highlight knockout followed with a title defense against Stephen Thompson as the co-main event of UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden. That bout went to a majority draw and earned Fight of the Night honors.

But Woodley’s title reign hasn’t been well received since 2017, following disappointing and very negatively-received defenses in a rematch with Thompson at UFC 209 and against Demian Maia at UFC 214. The later was deemed so poor that UFC President Dana White revoked a chance of facing Georges St-Pierre, opting to book Michael Bisping vs. GSP instead. Woodley and White have been at odds since last year, with other factors such as Woodley’s desire for money fights, picks of title challengers and Woodley’s return from shoulder surgery playing a role.

Tonight’s challenger, Till, entered the UFC with a 12-0 record in May 2015, and he has gone 5-0-1 since. Till burst onto the scene with a first-round TKO of fan-favorite Donald Cerrone at UFC Gdansk in October 2017. Till then defeated Stephen Thompson at UFC Liverpool back in May, winning a controversial decision in front of his hometown, but missing weight by four pounds. His weight issues were a concern heading into the title bout, and some thought he shouldn’t have been awarded No. 1 contendership, but Till managed to weigh in at 169 pounds.

A planned Women’s Flyweight Title fight with Nicco Montano defending against Valentina Shevchenko was scrapped after Montano was transported to a hospital due to weight cut issues. Montano has been stripped of the title.

A bantamweight contest between John Dodson and Jimmie Rivera moves up from the prelims to the main card, with a women’s strawweight fight featuring former title challengers Jessica Andrade and Karolina Kowalkiewicz will now serve as the pay-per-view’s co-main event.
