UFC 228: Woodley Submits Till, Keeps Title
Darren Till’s undefeated record is no more, and Tyron Woodley is still the UFC welterweight champion, coming out on top in the main event of UFC 228 in Dallas, Texas.
The opening round saw not much going on, with a lot of focus on grappling and clinching. Referee Dan Miragliotta did not have much patience for the pair’s clinching, standing them up and separating them at what seemed to be a quicker pace than normal. But Woodley seemed to do enough, or Till may not have done much, and the champion appeared to take the opening round.
Woodley made things more definitive in the second, rocking the English challenger early on before taking the fight to the ground attempting to get the finish. While he was unable to get the TKO, Woodley managed to get in a d’arce choke on the less experienced Till, submitting him in the round to get the win and make a successful title defense.
UFC 228 also saw highlight reel knockouts from the likes of Jessica Andrade (a first-round win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz), Abdul Razak Alhassan (a 43-second finish of Niko Price) and prelim fighter Geoff Neal. While Zabit Magomedsharipov and prelim fighter Aljamain Sterling each scored a kneebar win.
