UFC 230 Live Coverage And Results
UFC returns to New York City for another big show at Madison Square Garden. In the main event, Daniel Cormier makes his first UFC heavyweight title defense against contender Derrick Lewis.
It was an intriguing journey to get to this point as neither Cormier or Lewis was originally planned to even be a part of the show. But after several changes to the card, both Cormier and Lewis are returning to the octagon much sooner than anticipated, especially for Lewis.
Lewis fought less than a month ago at UFC 229 when he scored a major comeback victory over Alexander Volkov. In an immediate post-fight interview, Lewis initially said he was not ready for a title shot, but with the opportunity to headline a pay-per-view card at Madison Square Garden in a title fight, Lewis couldn’t turn down the opportunity.
As for Cormier, he became the UFC’s second-ever fighter to hold a title from two weight classes at the same time when he knocked out Stipe Miocic at UFC 226 back in July. Cormier, the first man to simultaneously hold the UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight titles, had been hinting at a possible fight against former champion Brock Lesnar. Until his USADA suspension ends in early 2019, Cormier is remaining at heavyweight, taking on Lewis.
