UFC 238: Attendance, Gate, Bonuses

A crowd of 16,083 came out to the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, for UFC 238 on June 8, drawing a gate of $2,034,387.49.

Performance bonuses went to Henry Cejudo and Valentina Shevchenko, both of whom were successful in the main event and co-main event.

After struggling in the first round against Marlon Moraes, Cejudo came back and worked over the Brazilian in the clinch, eventually finishing him in the closing seconds of the third round to win the vacant UFC Bantamweight Championship. This made Cejudo, who also holds the UFC Flyweight Championship, the seventh fighter in UFC history to win UFC championships in two weight classes, as well as the fourth fighter to hold two UFC titles simultaneously.

Shevchenko, meanwhile, put on a dominating performance against Jessica Eye, knocking her out with a violent head kick early in the second round to retain the UFC Women’s Flyweight Title.

The Fight of the Night went to Tony Ferguson vs. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. After an even opening round, Ferguson pressured and overwhelmed Cerrone in the second round. The ending was anti-climatic, however, as Ferguson hit Cerrone after the horn. Cerrone, on the way back to his corner, blew the nose that was tagged by the late hit, resulting in his right eye swelling up. The doctor did not allow Cerrone to continue, giving Ferguson the win.
