UFC 242 Live Results

The UFC lightweight championship will once again become unified in the main event of UFC 242, which takes place on Sept. 7 at du Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov finally returns from his suspension to active competition, as he takes on interim champion Dustin Poirier.

This will be Nurmagomedov’s first fight since defeating nemesis Conor McGregor at UFC 229. Following the fight, which Nurmagomedov won by fourth-round submission, the Dagestani champion jumped the Octagon and came after McGregor’s corner, while two of his teammates and McGregor brawled in the cage. Nurmagomedov was suspended nine months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for the incident.

Nonetheless, “The Eagle” has been dominant in his MMA career, unrelenting with his wrestling and takedowns, dominating his opponents on the ground. The 27-0 Nurmagomedov captured the UFC title with a win over Al Iaquinta at UFC 223.

During his suspension, Poirer won the interim lightweight title at UFC 236 in April, defeating featherweight champion Max Holloway by decision to snap Holloway’s 13-fight win streak. Poirier extended his unbeaten streak to six (five wins, one No Contest) and has just two blemishes on his record since moving up to 155 — a KO loss to Michael Johnson and a No Contest in his first fight with Eddie Alvarez, which he later avenged.

This is the UFC’s third-ever event in Abu Dhabi, following UFC 112 in 2010 and a Fight Night event in April 2014.
