UFC 253: Paulo Costa Says Israel Adesanya Has Multiple Personalities

Paulo Costa believes he sees multiple personalities in Israel Adesanya.

Costa is set to challenge Adesanya for the UFC Middleweight Championship this Saturday, September 26. The title fight will headline UFC 253. The action takes place on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi and will also feature a bout for the UFC Light-Heavyweight Championship as Dominick Reyes takes on Ian Blachowicz.

Things haven’t been chummy between Adesanya and Costa. The two have traded insults and threats in the leadup to their big title fight. Many were surprised when video footage of the two men showcased what appeared to be a cordial conversation face-to-face ahead of fight night.

Adesanya went on to say he was just sizing up “Borrachinha.” Speaking to reporters during a virtual scrum, Costa said Adesanya has split personalities (via MMAJunkie.com).

“He changes a lot his personality, his persona. The Adesanya that I saw on the video conference was very disrespectful guy. He show his fingers a lot to me. When I met him upstairs he was very kind, very gentle. When I saw him I was ready for a different kind of guy. He came and he gave his hand to shake his hand and asked how I’m feeling.”

Costa was referring to when Adesanya was given several balloon animals in reference to calling Costa an “overly inflated balloon animal” back in March. Costa will finally get his chance to settle a grudge, at least for now, with Adesanya and capture his first UFC title in the process. Both men are undefeated in their pro MMA careers.
