Through the course of this 5-round championship bout, both women took a chess match like approach. There was not a large amount of volume output by either fighter, but by playing smart defense and executing takedowns Carla Esparza was able to achieve the split decision victory (48-47, 49-46, 48-47) to become the new UFC strawweight champion. Esparza now holds a record of 19-6, while Rose Namajunas suffers her fifth loss in 16 fights.

Michael Chandler vs. Tony Ferguson – Lightweight
Through the first round of this fight between two 155-pound superstars, both competitors showed strong moments. But, at the beginning of the second round, everything changed. While advancing forward, Chandler delivered a perfectly timed front kick directly through the open channel of Ferguson’s guard. The kick connected clean on the chin of Ferguson, and he dropped to the canvas. Ferguson was out cold just 17 seconds into round two. After this dramatic finish, during his post fight interview, Chandler exclaimed that he should be next in line for a shot at the 155-pound title. Chandler now holds a professional record of 23-7, while Ferguson moves to 25-7.

Ovince St. Preux vs. Maurício Rua – Light Heavyweight
In a technical standup affair, these two highly experienced strikers displayed why they are still competing among the best fighters in the world at advanced stages in their career. Overall this match was very close, but in the end St. Preux earned the split decision over “Shogun” Rua (29-28, 29-28, 30-27). St. Preux now finds himself with a record of 26-16, while Rua falls to 27-13.

Randy Brown vs. Khaos Williams – Welterweight
To get the PPV broadcast started, Brown and Williams went the distance in their bout at 170-pounds. It was a back and forth battle where both fighters had their moments, but ultimately Brown was able to edge out a split decision victory (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). As a result of this fight, Brown improved his record to 15-4. Meanwhile, Williams suffered his third loss in 16 career matches.
