UFC 289: Nunes Retires After Beating Aldana To Retain Her Bantamweight Title

At UFC 289, Amanda Nunes defeated Irene Aldana via a unanimous decision live from the Rogers Arena, Vancouver, to retain her bantamweight title.

From the outset, Nunes dominated the fight as she inflicted more telling shots on her opponent. The Brazilian used her jab to great effect, as she drew blood from Aldana’s nose in just the first round.

She followed up her sustained attacks with kicks and takedowns, as Aldana was on the backfoot. The second round was much the same, as Nunes pounced with a sustained attack to the body and legs.

Thereafter, counter takedowns emerged, as she inflicted her elbow on Aldana at will. While Adana did manage to find some success with a knee strike, Nunes piled on the pressure with another takedown in the fifth.

The result was a unanimous-decision win as follows: 50-44, 50-44, 50-43. As a result, Nunes recorded her 16th victory, which was the most in the women’s UFC, as she announced her retirement.
