UFC 291: Aljamain Sterling To Face Sean O’Malley On August 19th

Aljamain Sterling, the current UFC bantamweight champion, is set to defend his title against Sean O’Malley at UFC 292 on August 19th, 2023, at the TD Garden, Boston.

In the co-main event, Zhang Weili, the top-ranked strawweight, and Amanda Lemos square off. Lemos is on a two-fight-win streak, while Weili aims to defend her title.

As for the main event, following Sterling’s successful title defense against Henry Cejudo in a split-decision victory, the two fighters had previously confronted each other.

In response, Dana White had stated that August was the tentative month for the fight, but Sterling had concerns about the date due to some minor injuries he sustained during his victory over Cejudo.

While that may have been the case, Sterling has talked up his chances of victory.

“What’s this guy going to do to me? Really? I’m not trying to be disrespectful, it’s a subtle jab, but it’s the truth. It’s a fight, anything could happen. But at the end of the day, I think we all know what his kryptonite is, and it’s unproven in the octagon.

“We’ve seen him one time on his back and he was like a fish out on land. ‘Chito’ [Marlon Vera] smashed him and sent him home. I think ‘Chito’ might have hit him one time, and his eyes rolled back in his head. That’s not a good sign,” Sterling
