UFC 291: Two Title Fights Could Follow – Here’s What We Know

UFC 291 will see the highly-anticipated rematch between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier for the BMF title on July 29th, 2023.

This was the only title fight scheduled originally for this event, but UFC fans might witness something special.

Just a few days ago, the latest UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill vacated the title because of an injury to his achilles.

“Everyone knows that I’ve been waiting for months now to face Jiri Prochazka and defend my belt and my title — unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait a little bit. I’ve ruptured my Achilles. It’s one that will require surgery and time and rehab and things to be out for a while.

“Also, with that, I was given an opportunity. Jiri Prochazka was the champion, he suffered an injury, as these things happen and he gave up the belt and allowed for others to not hold the division up, to keep the division moving forward to make sure the people had a champion. I’ll do the same,” Hill said

And given that Jan Blachowicz and Alex Pereira are set to face each other, the vacant title could be put on the line.
