UFC 294 Press Conference Face-Offs & Key Quotes

The UFC 294 press conference featured some of Saturday’s biggest stars for the pay-per-view event from Abu Dhabi. UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev and featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski were joined by former welterweight champ Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev to answer questions about their respective fights and to get fans hyped on the PPV event.

Volkanovski vowed that he would avenge his loss to Makhachev and offered reasons why he was unsuccessful the first time, and why he is confident in this go-round. Volkanovski questioned Makhachev’s rehydrating methods and backed his skills and strength leading into the matchup, to which Mackhachev issued a stern warning. Volkanovski heard the champ loud and clear and left the notion that there would be no quit in him this weekend, while Makhachev is simply looking for respect and to make a statement.

Meanwhile, both Usman and Chimaev were locked in and looked ready to go for their co-main event. They vowed to meet in the middle and exchange, and Chimaev even playfully asked how Usman can be the best when he has lost three times. The personal dig didn’t sit well with Usman, though he wittingly let Chimaev know that ‘this is a lesson that he will have to teach him.’

Setting the stage for UFC 294 is a feat in itself given that these matchups were put together just over a week ago to cover for two separate injury replacements.
