UFC Brasilia: Bonuses

It was a very weird night for the UFC, as there were no fans in attendance for UFC Brasilia. Taking place inside the Nilson Nelson Gymnasium, the UFC only allowed fighters and select personnel inside the building due to the coronavirus.

As a result of no fans, there was no gate for UFC on ESPN+ 28. The main event saw Charles Oliveira tap out Kevin Lee in the third round. The win saw Oliveira earn a part of the Performance of the Night bonus.

The bout was even as both fighters put on a clinic. Oliveira dropped Lee down several times only for Lee to get top position. In the third, Oliveira dropped Lee down and locked in the guillotine choke. Lee tapped and appeared out of it as he tried to continue on.

That was Oliveira’s 16th bonus, second to Donald Cerrone’s 18.

The other Performance of the Night bonus went to Gilbert Burns. The 33-year-old beat Demian Maia via TKO in the first round of the co-main event. Following an initial punch that knocked Maia down, Burns thought the fight was called. When it wasn’t he hit a number of shots that smacked the face of Maia. The win was his fifth in a row, and seventh in his last eight fights.

Fight of the Night went to Mayra Bueno Silva v. Maryna Moroz. The third bout of the prelims, both women put on a show for those watching on ESPN to see. In the end, Moroz won via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
