New UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Carlos Ulberg (15-1) provided an update on his recovery, revealing that his rehabilitation from knee surgery is progressing ahead of schedule.
Ulberg captured the vacant title on April 11 at UFC 327 in Miami, knocking out former champion Jiří Procházka in the first round, however, this was after he tore his ACL in the opening minute of the fight, which required surgery one week following his championship victory.
While a typical ACL recovery can sideline an athlete for up to a year, Ulberg is optimistic about a faster turnaround. Thanks to his work at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas, he’s hopeful he will be able to return to the Octagon by the years’ end.
“We went into the surgery thinking ‘Okay, this could be between six to eight months or so. Longer for some, but with the progress that we’ve got at the moment – it’s only been a week now – and we’re moving pretty good. I think we’ve got a good formula going, the body’s healing really fast,” Ulberg said
