UFC champ Kamaru Usman to fight Colby Covington again

UFC President Dana White has affirmed that Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman will defend his strap against a familiar foe , Colby Covington. White revealed during the press conference after UFC 263 that Covington will get another title shot for the welterweight belt.

After Leon Edwards beat Nate Diaz at UFC 263, it seemed like he might have impressed the boss just enough to fight Kamaru Usman. But White has other plans.

The Nigerian Nightmare thumped Covington and broke his jaw the last time they met at UFC 245 in December 2019. Both fighters have since shared prolonged bad blood that has been visible in any show they are called up.

The fight kept the MMA fraternity on its toes from the very first round till the fifth round where Usman got the better of the Chaos. Dana White has been looking to get the two fight again ever since the first showdown.

In an interview on May 12, the UFC boss said: “I have dinner with Usman tonight… I don’t know what has he got on his mind or whatever. He wanted to get together and talk… Usman vs Covington is one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen in my life. It is an incredible fight.”

Both welterweights are willing to share the octagon again in the coming September.
