UFC Ending Flyweight Division, Cutting Fighters

Just over a week after trading away their former flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson to ONE Championship, the UFC has begun the process of ending the division he helped make.

According to Flo Combat, the UFC has begun the process of finishing up the division by moving some fighters to bantamweight and cutting others. The first fighter to face the chopping block was Jose Torres who was released on Wednesday.

Im the 1st to be let go. I didnt get to finish my UFC contract with 2 fights left because they are cutting most of my division n not giving some of us a chance to bump up n prove ourselves like myself. So now it’s time to move on to bigger and better things. Good luck small guys!

With the current and now final flyweight champion moving up to face bantamweight champion, T.J Dillashaw, the division that began with Demetrious Johnson winning the title in 2012 ended when he lost the title to Cejudo.
