The UFC Hall of Fame will induct the welterweight title fight between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald 2, which happened on July 11th, 2015, during International Fight Week starting on July 3rd, 2023.
Two years before their most recent encounter, Lawler emerged victorious over his opponent in their initial meeting at UFC 167 by way of a split decision.
But the rematch is where both fighters created their legacy in victory and defeat. Lawler defended his welterweight championship title in a fight that delivered all but more.

In the fourth round, Lawler spat out blood and stared down MacDonald, as he came out victorious with a TKO win in the fifth round.
MacDonald’s injured nose forced the referee to stop the fight, but not before all the plaudits came rushing in.Â
“The fight between Robbie Lawler and Rory McDonald at UFC 189 was one of the most exciting fights in UFC history. This was an absolute war and a complete display of heart, grit, determination, and the will to win from both athletes.
“This five-round classic will always be remembered as one of the best and I can’t wait to induct this fight into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer,” Dana White
And this was the sentiment being expressed on social media.
