The UFC has officially rolled out a new rankings system powered by Meta AI, ending years of complaints.
“I’ve been unhappy with the rankings and always believed there had to be a better way. We’ve always been a company that runs toward technology and innovation, and now we’ve worked with Meta to integrate it directly into our rankings system,” Dana White
Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg added his voice to the launch. “I’m excited to work with Dana and the UFC to build a system that analyzes fighter performance at a much deeper level, helping create more transparent and accurate rankings,” he said.
The new system, updated automatically every Monday following UFC events, uses statistical modelling and machine learning to evaluate fighters based on objective metrics including outcome probability, win type, fighter trajectory and weight-class.
Key changes include the removal of the pound-for-pound category, a small bonus applied to finishes, decisions carrying no weight in calculations, and inactivity penalties for fighters who go extended periods without competing. Beating a higher-ranked opponent will carry significantly more weight than defeating a lower-ranked one.
