It seems like the YouTube boxing scenario has enticed UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell to roll back the years, but this time in boxing. In conversation with ex-UFC commentator Jimmy Smith, the Iceman suggested that an exhibition boxing match against either of the former NBA stars, Charles Barkley or Shaquille O’Neal would be “fun”.
Liddell last fought in 2018 against Tito Ortiz, with whom he shared bad blood when both were active in the UFC. He lost the fight with a first-round KO. The Iceman is now 51 whereas Barkley and O’Neal are 58 and 49, respectively.
At 2.13 meters, O’Neal is one of the tallest basketball players to have featured in the NBA . But Liddell doesn’t feel that would play to his advantage if the two ever box.
He told Jimmy Smith: “You gotta remember, one of my sparring partners for a long time was 6’10. So it’s not big, but I trained with Gan McGee for forever, and my brother is 6’4, 6’5, 300lb. But standing next to Shaq, Shaq’s a big man… I’m always around big guys, but Shaq’s one of those few guys you go up to and go ‘Damn, Shaq’s big.’”
