UFC Long Island Results: Brian Ortega Suffers Injury During Bout With Yair Rodriguez
UFC Long Island was held on Saturday.
In the main event, Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez shared the octagon. Ortega tried to control Rodriguez on the cage and tried to get a takedown. Both fighters managed to land some serious punches, but unfortunately, Ortega suffered a shoulder injury. It is not clear at exactly which moment he suffered it, but his shoulder was out when Rodriguez tried an armbar.
Both fighters agreed to the rematch already, but it is not known when Ortega will be ready to train again.
In the co-main event, Amanda Lemos earned a second-round submission victory against Michelle Waterson-Gomez. Waterson was very small relative to Lemos, and this size advantage played a massive role. Waterson was not able to close the distance, but she still won the first round.
In the second round, she tried the same, but Lemos finished her via submission with a guillotine choke. In an interview, Lemos said that she was training for this choke because she knew Karate Hottie was leaving her neck for it.
Jingliang Li served first ever KO loss to Muslim Salikhov, defending his No. 14 spot. Neither fighter had ever lost via KO, and both were used to serve brutal KOs to their rivals.
Matt Schnell deserved all the respect after his comeback against Sumudaerji. When everyone thought he was out, he landed a brutal right cross, taking his rival on the ground, and finishing him.
Shane Burgos and Charles Jourdan were the unofficial main event for hard-core MMA fans. Charles demolished Burgos on striking; he was sharper, faster, and more accurate. However, Burgos proved that he is a good MMA fighter, and not only a boxer. He used his wrestling and ground game against him. The first round was pretty close because half of it was controlled by Burgos, and another half was led by Jourdan.
In the second round, Burgos controlled Jourdan, but in the final round, Jourdan released his full power and served almost 100 punches in under five minutes.
Jack Shore suffered first ever loss against Ricky Simon. Shore opened the bout as the favorite, but Simon proved he is a complete MMA fighter. He used his wrestling, grappling, and striking to make sure of his victory, and there was no aspect where Shore looked better than Simon.
