UFC on ESPN 9 Salaries: Tyron Woodley The Big Winner Despite Loss
Gilbert Burns may have won the main event, but it was Tyron Woodley’s wallet that won the night.
MMA Fighting revealed the payday the fighters who competed inside the UFC’s APEX Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 30 received. Before bonuses of the night were revealed, Woodley ($200,000) outearned everyone. Gilbert Burns ($168,000), who controlled all five rounds of the fight to secure him the unanimous decision victory, gained $50,000 as a result of the Performance of the Night bonus.
Brandon Royval ($24,000) and Tim Elliot ($31,000) earned an additional $50,000 for Fight of The Night. Royval, who pointed out that he has a day job, ended up locking in an arm-triangle choke for the win in the second round. Mackenzie Dern ($66,000) also earned an additional $50,000 for the other half of Performance of the Night. She locked in the first leglock in women’s UFC history to beat Hannah Cifers.
