UFC Reveals Full Fight Lineup For Curtis Blaydes Vs. Alexander Volkov-Led Card
With Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic finally getting ready for their trilogy bout, the UFC’s heavyweight division is in need of some future contenders. Will this week’s card produce those challengers?
The UFC released the fill card for UFC on ESPN 11, set to take place on Saturday, June 20. Curtis Blaydes and Alexander Volkov will be headlining the card that will be from inside the UFC’s APEX Center in Las Vegas.
“The heavyweight division is finally heating up here,” UFC President Dana White stated to ESPN, via MMA Junkie. “Get that title fight out there and then find out who’s next. Obviously Ngannou is the man right now. No matter what happens with Curtis Blaydes, he’s lost to Ngannou twice.”
Blaydes (13-2, 1 NC) has lost to Francis Ngannou twice, but has rebounded both times. Following a loss to Ngannou in 2016, “Razor” went 5-0 with one no-contest, before losing to him again in 2018. The 29-year-old is on a three-fight win streak, last beating Junior dos Santos via TKO in January.
A former Bellator and M-1 Global Heavyweight Champion, Volkov (31-7) is 7-1 in his last eight fights. After a last-second knockout-loss against Derrick Lewis at UFC 229, Volkov beat Greg Hardy back in November via unanimous decision.
The co-main event will be Shane Burgos v. Josh Emmett. Emmett (15-2) is on a two-fight win streak and is 4-2 in his last six fights. He last competed in July 2019, beating Mirsad Bektic via TKO. Burgos (13-1) had his ten-fight unbeaten streak broken at the hands of Calvin Kattar back in 2018 at UFC 220. He has since gone 3-0, last beating Makwan Amirkhani at UFC 244 in November.
