UFC Fight Night 233 will no longer be taking place in China on December 9th, 2023.
According to reports, the event will take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas instead. It is not exactly clear the reason as to why the event was pulled. However, the UFC’s foray into the Chinese market has been brief. The event would have been the UFC’s fourth time in China as it was expected to take place at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium. The news has understandably come as a disappointment, given the high hopes that had emerged for what would have been a big event.
“Building on our successful debut in Shanghai in 2017, we are excited to bring another sensational event to the city and highlight the promising new wave of UFC athletes representing our country inside the rejuvenated Shanghai Indoor Stadium,” Sum Huang (CEO of Endeavor China)
With that being said, the Brendson Ribeiro vs. Mingyang Zhang light heavyweight clash has been canceled. Meanwhile, four ‘Road to UFC’ final bouts have also been removed and will be rescheduled.
“Oh, the UFC Shanghai tournament has been canceled, so it’s going to be Vegas,” Shu Hirata (MMA manager) said
