UFC Signs Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Cousin Umar
MMA is not unfamiliar with multiple family members joining the sport at the same time. The Gracie’s are all over the place and have been since the start. Now, the Nurmagomedov’s are looking to take over.
The UFC has signed Umar Nurmagomedov, the cousin of UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Umar (12-0) has competed in a number of promotions outside of the United States. He debuted for Fight Nights Global back in 2017, beating Alym Isabaev via TKO. The 140-pound fighter fought in America twice while with the Professional Fighters League. In 2018 he beat Saidyokub Kakhramonov and last year he beat Sidemar Honorio, both via unanimous decision.
Umar’s last fight was with Gorilla Fighting Championship, submitting Brian Gonzalez in November via rear-naked choke in the first round.
The 24-year-old is expected to debut for the promotion on the UFC 249 card in Brooklyn on April 18. How big is his stock supposed to be? According to Jorge Masvidal, the sky is the limit.
Talking to Javi Mendez he told me to keep an eye out on Umar, says Umar is UFC champion material 👀 https://t.co/9HUDNn8Nxj
