“We kicked off the year with a phenomenal comeback from Conor McGregor at UFC 246, and now we are thrilled to announce our return to Ireland after four-years,” stated UFC Senior VP of International and Content David Shaw. “With Irish fans amongst the most passionate UFC supporters in the world, and Dublin being such an iconic global city, we can’t wait to put on another world class event for our fans there.”
There have been three major UFC events in Dublin since taking the trip over there in 2009. UFC 93 and its 9,369 fans in attendance watched Dan Henderson defeat Rich Franklin via split decision, while Shogun Rua defeated Mark Coleman via TKO. The last time the UFC was in Dublin was in 2015, with 9,500 fans seeing Louis Smolka submit Irish star Paddy Holohan. Darren Till earned Fight of the Night honors on the card as he fought Nicolas Dalby to a majority decision draw.
Between those two cards was a true star-making performance by Conor McGregor. In 2014, 9,500 people saw McGregor beat Diego Brandao via TKO in the first round. With a gate of around $1.4 million, it marked the rise of McGregor as a featherweight contender. It would also be the last time he fought in his home country.
Tickets for the UFC’s return to Dublin go on sale June 26. UFC Fight Club members will gain early access on June 24, while newsletter subscribers will get their chance on June 25.
