UFC Vegas 53: Marlon Vera Thrashes Rob Font In Main Event

Marlon Vera’s first ever UFC main event was successful.

Along with being the first Ecuadorian to headline a UFC event, Vera added to his three-fight winning streak with a unanimous decision victory over Puerto Rican Rob Font Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Vera nearly finished Font, but he settled to take the fight to the distance – in his favor.

At the start of the fight, Font struck with greater volume, but Vera didn’t seem deterred as he flashed kicks to Font.

In the second round, Font landed a number of straight punches and uppercuts, but in the final seconds of the round, Vera threw a left hook that floored his opponent. The Ecuadorian took advantage of the moment and landed big shots.

Font’s left eye began to swell in the third round. Each fighter had their moments, but again in the final seconds of the round, Vera landed a huge knee that sent Font to the canvas again.

Towards the end of the bout, it was clear to Font that he needed a huge moment to secure a win, but it didn’t come.

Both fighters remained aggressive until the final moments, but Vera was able to execute his kicks throughout the fight.
