UFC Vegas 56: Alexander Volkov Ends Jairzinho Rozenstruik In First Round

Alexander Volkov ended the night early.

Volkov did not hold back in the first round of the main event, unloading a flurry of shots that caught Rozenstruik on his chin, forcing referee Herb Dean to jump in and stop the fight at 2:12 minutes. And with that, Volkov was declared the winner.

Both fighters started using their low kicks, but Volkov was the one who managed to fight from the outside and use his reach advantage.

In the first round, he was lending lots of inside low kicks, but Rozenstruik almost caught him with a left hook.

When everyone thought that Rozenstruik had his chance to finish the fight, Volkov landed a brutal right cross and stunned his rival. The Russian fighter landed several more punches, dropped Rozenstruik, and earned a first-round TKO finish.

In the rankings, nothing will change because Volkov was at the No. 7 position, while Rezonstruik remains at the No. 8 spot. However, the winner will get his chance against the top 5 fighters.

Movsar Evloev proved that he is the worthy contender and rising star of the UFC featherweight division in the co-main event.

He defeated the No. 10 ranked featherweight, Dan Ige, very dominantly.

In the first round, Evloev outstroke Ige, and in the second and third rounds, the Russian fighter mixed his wrestling, grappling and striking skills and served serious damage to every aspect of the fight.

Evloev earned another unanimous decision victory, with judges’ scorecards 30-26, 30-27, 30-27, and remained undefeated in their professional MMA career.

It was his 16th victory under MMA rules and sixth in the UFC.
