UFC Vegas 68: Spivac Ends Things In The First Round By Dominating Lewis
Spivac calls for Jon Jones next
Serghei Spivac has ended Derrick Lewis‘ prospects of becoming a UFC title holder.
The 28-year-old Moldovan heavyweight completely dominated Lewis in the headline match of UFC Vegas 68, which was held at the UFC APEX on February 4th, 2023, submitting him with a first-round arm-triangle choke.
Spivac (16-3) took Lewis (26-11, 1 NC) to the ground at his leisure, registering six takedowns before taking victory with a submission.
The result saw Spivac go 6-1 in his last seven UFC battles, while Lewis lost his fourth out of his last five UFC fights.
Speaking after the main event, Spivac said:
“Derrick Lewis is great. He fought two times for the title. He’s great. He’s a legend for me. I love him. Today, this is my time. ‘Polar Bear’ is here, ‘Polar Bear’ is coming. Give me somebody from the top five. I want Jon Jones. I think this is good. Jon Jones, I respect you so much. Sorry bro, but I’m coming.”
In chief support, Devin Clark (14-7) pulled off an unexpected victory with an impressive showing against the up-and-coming, light heavyweight prospect Da Un Jung (15-4-1).
Clark was able to get strong takedowns during each round and used his wrestling skills to keep Jung off balance the entire match.
In the end, the judges gave Clark a unanimous decision with a 30-27 score on each of their cards. This was only Jung’s second loss.
Meanwhile, in another fight, Marcin Tybura (24-7) continued his impressive streak in the UFC by winning in a unanimous decision against Blagoy Ivanov (19-5, 1 NC). In doing so, Tybura called out Jairzinho Rozenstruik for a rematch.
Elsewhere, Kyle Nelson (13-5-1) managed to secure a majority draw in a featherweight battle against Doo Ho Choi (14-1-1), mainly owing to a contentious third-round point deduction resulting from a headbutt.
