UFC’s First Ugandan Fighter Steps In Vs. Mason Jones

Uganda’s first UFC fighter is stepping into the octagon this Saturday.

His name is David Onama and he’s debuting against prospect Mason Jones at UFC Fight Night 196.

Glory MMA’s 27-year-old product has an impressive record with eight victories and no losses as a professional MMA fighter. In amateur bouts, he earned five victories and has not suffered any losses.

Additionally, he has a 100% finishing rate, with five KO/TKOs and three submission victories.

Since 2020, he has already fought five times in FAC, Fighting Alliance Championship, which is on UFC Fight Pass.

He will fight with Jones, who already fought twice in the UFC, suffering only one loss against Mike Davis.

His second UFC fight against Alan Patrick ended as a no contest due to an accidental eye poke. He was supposed to have a rematch on this card, but Patrick pulled out due to testing positive for Covid-19, so Onama steps in on a short notice.

Jones, of Wales, is considered an excellent prospect from Europe.

The preliminary card airs on ESPN+ at 1 p.m. ET and the main card is expected for 4 p.m. ET.
