Ugas Continues His Push To Face Top Fighters

Not that long ago, Yordenis Ugas made his intentions known that he wants to face Terence Crawford. With a victory over him in the amateurs, Ugas (25-4) believes that it would be an entertaining fight. It appears he wants to face more of boxing’s elite fighters.

The 33-year-old has an interest in facing off against Shawn Porter once again. The two fought in March 2019 for the WBC Welterweight Championship. Following a back and forth affair in California, Ugas lost via split decision. Porter (30-3-1) ended up losing the title during his last fight against Errol Spence Jr. Looking to become a contender once more, could a former champion in Porter be the one to help Ugas out?

“That was a great fight of two of the best welterweights.  A lot of people think I won that fight and I would love to make that fight happen again,” Ugas stated, via Boxing Scene.

A bronze medalist in the 2008 Olympics, Ugas has been fighting professionally since 2010. Following the Porter loss, Ugas has won two fights. He beat Omar Figueroa Jr. via unanimous decision in July and Mike Dallas Jr. this past February

Other fighters Ugas has been looking at include Mikey Garcia and Danny Garcia. Mikey (40-1) just entered the welterweight division after being a featherweight and lightweight champion. He lost to Errol Spence Jr. in his welterweight debut but rebounded with a win over Jessie Vargas in February. Danny (36-2), a former WBC Welterweight Champion, lost the title to Keith Thurman. He has also lost to Porter via unanimous decision for the WBC belt. The 32-year-old is currently on a two-fight win streak, beating Adrian Granados in April 2019 and Ivan Redkach in January.

“Mikey is a great fight for me – I don’t think I am in his plans but it is a good fight. I am looking to fight for titles and he has different plans right now so I don’t know how possible that fight is,” Ugas went on to say.

“That would be a great fight against (Danny) Garcia. I have said before that I want that fight and that would be a great fight for everyone.  He is one of the best welterweights and so am I.”

While his ultimate goal is Spence, fights against the best fighters out there could eventually lead him to the top prize in boxing’s welterweight division.
