Ugas Dominates Dallas Jr., Wins Via TKO

If there was any indication that Yordenis Ugas was ready for a title opportunity, it was his complete domination of Mike Dallas Jr. Inside the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, Biloxi, Mississippi, Ugas beat Dallas Jr. via TKO before the eighth round had a chance to begin.

“I’m not overly excited about my performance, but the most important thing was to get the victory and take a step closer to getting the title shot,” stated Ugas after the fight. “The main goal now is to keep winning and fight for a title. I’m ready for all of the top welterweights.”

It was an absolute massacre by Ugas (25-4), who came out hot at the start of the bell and didn’t look back. For his part, Dallas Jr. (23-3-2) managed to show up and survive the early onslaught by Ugas. The 33-year-old Ugas pushed Dallas back several times, throwing several big rights. The one thing that saved Dallas from an early night was an early low blow by Ugas.

Ugas continued to take control and by the third, Ugas wasn’t holding back. There was a cut on the forehead of Ugas via an accidental headbutt, the only true damage he suffered. Body and head shots helped Ugas dismantle Dallas, who hasn’t competed on a true stage like this since drawing with Dusty Hernández-Harrison in 2016. An attempted shot by Ugas in the fifth ended up pushing Dallas down, but the judge did not score it as a knockdown.

Ugas continued his dominance until Dallas’ corner stopped the fight after the seventh round. During the post-fight commentary, Dallas’ corner stated he was taking too many big shots and they wanted him to live to fight another day.

The fight ended with Ugas landing 136 of 360 punches, with Dallas only landing 46 of 267. This is Ugas’ second win in a row since losing to WBO Welterweight Champion Shawn Porter in March. His last fight was a win over Omar Figueroa Jr. via unanimous decision.
