Ugas Ready To Return To Title Contention
All eyes will be on Yordenis Ugas the day before the Super Bowl, as the welterweight faces off against Mike Dallas Jr. Hosted by FS1, the fight will be inside the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Seeing how this is a great time to be a sports fan, Ugas (24-4) will look to take advantage of this once in a lifetime moment.
“This is a huge weekend for sports fans,” said Ugas in a press event prior to the fight. “It’s very exciting to be in the main event one day before the Super Bowl. You know that when I get in the ring, you’re going to see action and great skill from start to finish. I always come to put on a great performance.”
Ugas faces off against Dallas Jr. (23-3-2), who is coming off of a decision win against Moris Rodriguez back in October. He has won two in a row and landed a split decision draw against Dusty Hernandez-Harrison a while back. Ugas is not taking his opponent lightly.
“Mike Dallas Jr. is a very skilled fighter who’s been in the ring with some very good opposition,” Ugas continued. “He’s a crafty veteran who I know is coming to fight with all his heart. His only losses have come against top fighters. I’m taking this fight very seriously and I’ll have to be on my game to really make a statement.”
Ugas is hoping to get back into title contention with a win against Dallas Jr. He lost to Shawn Porter back in march via split decision for Porter’s WBC Welterweight Title. Since then, he beat Omar Figueroa Jr. in a rebound fight. A title is something he has been clamoring for ever since he was a kid.
“My lifelong dream ever since I first laced up a pair of gloves was to win a world title,” Ugas went on to say. “I’ve come so close to accomplishing that dream, but for some reason I’ve come up short. I’m determined to be the best fighter I can be, and I know in my heart that I’m one of the best welterweights in the world. My goal is to become a world champion in 2020.”
