Update On Justin Gaethje’s Next Fight

There is an update on the fighting future of Justin Gaethje.

Gaethje was last seen in action back in October 2020. He challenged Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC Lightweight Title. Going into the bout, Gaethje was the interim champion. Nurmagomedov ended up choking out Gaethje in the second round via triangle choke.

Now, it appears the UFC has a plan laid out for “The Highlight.” UFC President Dana White took part in an ESPN+ fan Q&A hosted by Laura Sanko. During the chat, White revealed what is likely next for Gaethje.

“If everything goes right, it will probably be (Charles) Oliveira.”

Oliveira’s last outing took place back on December 12. He shared the Octagon with Tony Ferguson in the UFC’s final PPV event of 2020. Oliveira turned in a one-sided performance, defeating “El Cucuy” via unanimous decision. Oliveira extended his winning streak to eight. He hasn’t suffered a loss since December 2017.

Gaethje is hoping to return to form for his next bout. Before suffering the submission to Nurmagomedov, “The Highlight” was riding a four-fight winning streak. All four of those wins were via knockout or TKO.

FIGHT SPORTS will keep you updated on the latest information involving Gaethje vs. Oliveira if and when the fight is announced.
