USA Boxing Offering To Host Olympic Qualifying Tournament

It is unknown when sports will be allowed to move forward as a result fo the coronavirus. Whenever everything eventually returns to normal, USA Boxing would like to lend its services in preparation for the Olympics.

According to Boxing Scene, USA Boxing is offering an arena in Colorado Springs for Olympics qualifying bouts for Americans. This comes after Argentina shut down qualifiers for the Olympics, set to take place from Mach 26-April 3, due to the virus. It is unknown when the next qualifying events will happen or when dates for the new events will go on.

Recently the Olympics were postponed until 2021. All events will now be delayed as a result, including boxing. The London qualifier bouts were in the middle of action before the International Olympics Committee’s task force announced that all qualifying events would be suspended until May the latest. Only the Africa and Asia/Oceania events have been completed.

Summer events are currently questionable. The National Junior Olympics were recently postponed, according to USA Boxing. More event are expected to be altered as a result of the pandemic.

Those who have already competed in the qualifiers, and those that were going to compete, have been told their spots are safe. Due to the moving around of events, the hope is that the qualifier events will be able to get done before Christmas. This is a result of other events that need to be held prior to the Olympics.

Colorado appears to be the premier location, if events are allowed to take place around that time.
