Usman Clashes With Masvidal At Miami Media Event

The UFC’s welterweight division is filled with talent waiting to explode. Two of the top fighters in the division almost did that towards one another.

Champion Kamaru Usman and BMF Champion Jorge Masvidal got into it at Radio Row during media day in Miami prior to Super Bowl LIV. As seen below (courtesy of For The Win’s Andy Nesbitt), Usman (16-1) had to be held back by multiple members of security as Masvidal (35-13) egged him on. Mazvidal stated that since Usman’s arm was in a cast, he was lucky.

This is not the first time Usman got into a war of words with another fighter. Prior to fighting Colby Covington at UFC 245, both fighters crossed paths in the buffet line of a Las Vegas Casino. They soon would be brawling, with Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz also in the mix. It was one of many incidents where the two disagreed with one another over Covington’s controversial statements.

Rumors have been swirling for months regarding a potential clash between the two inside the octagon. Masvidal has had interest in facing  Conor McGregor before facing Usman, especially since Usman responds with “Who?” every time Masvidal’s name is brought up. During a UFC 246 media scrum, Masvidal discussed his options, stating neither Conor or Usman would stand a chance

“Somebody will always have the belt at 170 pounds,” Masvidal said. “It doesn’t really matter if it’s Kamaru or not. Conor is a bigger fight. Now, if Conor doesn’t do his job or Conor doesn’t want to fight after this fight, we’re gonna take Usman’s head off.”
