UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is firing back after hearing Conor McGregor fire an insult at his fighting style his way.
McGregor returns to the Octagon at UFC 246 tonight, taking on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a welterweight bout. McGregor hopes for this fight to be the start of a comeback season in 2020.
McGregor is keeping his options for future fights open — including a lightweight title rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov and a fight with Jorge Masvidal. McGregor has expressed interest in winning gold at both lightweight and welterweight, but during the recent UFC 246 press conference, McGregor said a fight with the “BMF” belt winner would be more lucrative and entertaining.
McGregor said he was not interested in Usman’s “sniff the jockstrap style” that’s similar to Nurmagomedov.
“Humans love the path of least resistance,” Usman said. “Fair play to him, I’d say. Fair play to Conor. But, this jock sniffer will humble him even worse than Khabib has humbled him.”
Nurmagomedov dominated the UFC 229 main event, submitting McGregor in the fourth round after dominating him throughout most of the first three rounds on the ground.
Usman says he isn’t necessarily chasing the fight with McGregor, but he warns he’ll take the Irish star head-on if he truly wants to be the first UFC fighter to win championships in three different weight classes.
