Usman Reveals He Was Offered Covington Fight
Welterweight contender Kamaru Usman could be back in the octagon soon against another top welterweight.
Usman spoke to TMZ Sports and said the UFC offered him a fight against interim welterweight champion Colby Covington, potentially in January. The fight has not been made as Usman said he is still awaiting on Covington to take the fight.
“I’m gonna go out there and knock out Colby Covington. That right now is the fight,” Usman said. “The UFC just called and they offered us that fight. They said Colby Covington in January. And you know what I’m gonna do, of course I’ve accepted. For the fifth time I’ve accepted the fight. Right now, we’re just waiting on him.”
Although Usman is on the verge of a potential title shot against Tyron Woodley in 2019, but Usman admitted that he really wants to have a chance to fight Covington, stating that he is someone that makes Usman’s “blood boil.”
“There comes a time in our careers that you get that one guy. That guy that just makes your blood boil. That really pulls the savage out of you. I have to touch him. I’ve got to bless this dude with my hands. I gotta bless him. It’ll be a sour taste in my mouth for me to win the belt, defend multiple times and retire, and knowing that I didn’t really put my hands on this dude.”
