Usman vs. Meek Targeted for UFC 219

Rising welterweight contender Kamaru Usman’s next fight looks to be scheduled for UFC 219 — which takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Dec. 30 — against Emil Weber Meek.

Usman has won all but one of his 12 professional MMA fights thus far, and he’s currently 6-0 in the UFC. In July 2015, Usman won the welterweight portion of season 21 of The Ultimate Fighter. And this year, Usman has picked up two big victories to his credit — a unanimous decision win over Sean Strickland at UFC 210 in April, and a first-round knockout of Sergio Moraes last month at a Fight Night in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Meek has as many fights as Usman, currently sporting a record of 9-2, with one No Contest. Meek made his UFC debut in last December, defeating Jordan Mein by unanimous decision at UFC 206.

This bout joins several others currently scheduled for UFC 219, including former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz returning to face Jimmie Rivera, former women’s strawweight champion Carla Esparza facing rising contender Cynthia Calvillo and Carlos Condit’s return to the UFC against Neil Magny.

No main event for UFC 219 has been announced yet.
