Usyk Complains About The Ring Canvas; Is It Mind Games With Fury?

Oleksandr Usyk has complained about the ring canvas for his fight with Tyson Fury.

The Undisputed Heavyweight Championship happens on Saturday. But Usyk’s team have raised a serious issue over the ring mat. Sky Sports has revealed the issue is with the seams that keep the ring together. It was same canvas used when Usyk beat Anthony Joshua in 2021 in Saudi Arabia.

Filip Hrgovic and Zhilei Zhang fought on that card, slipping as both boxers talked to the referee. Fury also complained about the ring when he boxed Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. He claimed the mat was ‘too soft.’ There was a suggestion it was mind games as Fury may have pulled out. He beat Klitschko comprehensively to shock the world. With Usyk doing something similar, the ring will have to be inspected. But is it mind games from team Usyk?

“I’m really intrigued, I was in that ring last night before anybody got in there and didn’t notice anything. Of course like every boxer, I was in the ring and did a bit of shadow boxing and didn’t notice anything. I’m really intrigued as to what it is all about.Could it be mind games? Possibly, but I doubt it. We’re in neutral territory here, there’s no advantage for Tyson or for Usyk,” Frazer Clarke said

The betting odds for the fight suggest that it will be tight and very little to choose between them. Some of the major US bookmakers have Fury or Usyk winning, only by a small margin. While another has it dead even.

At FanDuel, Usyk is the tiniest of favorites at -114 odds (you’d have to bet $114 to win $100) over Fury, who’s priced at -108.

DraftKings: Fury who is favored, with a -120 price, compared to even money, +100, on Usyk.

ESPN Bet: Fury is also favored, but more narrowly, at -115, with Usyk at -105.

At bet365, it’s dead even, -110 each way.
