Usyk Joins Dwayne Johnson’s MMA Movie Smashing Machine

Oleksandr Usyk, the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, has joined the cast of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s new movie Smashing Machine.

Usyk is coming off the best win of his career, beating Tyson Fury via a split decision to become the first Undisputed Heavyweight Champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999. He joined Evander Holyfield in becoming undisputed at cruiserweight and heavyweight. He will now test his acting skills, playing the role of Ukrainian kickboxer Igor ‘Ice Cold’ Vovchanchyn.

Johnson will play ex-UFC and PRIDE fighter Mark Kerr. Kerr was a Pride FC Heavyweight Champion and a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion. The movie focuses on his addiction, looking at his problems with painkillers and narcotics. Johnson and Usyk will shoot a scene from when Kerr and Vovchanchyn faced off in Yokohama, Japan, in 1999 at PRIDE 7.

This is Usyk’s first acting role, as the undisputed champion’s popularity continues to increase. He joins his former opponent Tony Bellew, who also crossed over to act in ‘The Creed’ franchise. The film will help Usyk become a crossover star to go alongside his boxing achievements, which have made him the best heavyweight of this generation.
