Usyk-Povetkin Possible For May 18

Oleksandr Usyk’s debut as a heavyweight is quickly becoming a reality, as he will face former world title challenger, Alexander Povetkin.

The two are rumored to square off in Chicago on May 18th, the same night as a rumored return of Deontay Wilder for Showtime at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

“I can say that at the moment, there is no confirmation yet on whether this fight will take place,” noted Povetkin honoring the heavyweight’s late father, former Russian amateur coach Vladimir Povetkin.

Usyk will return on DAZN in Chicago, fighting in the United States for the first time since an April 2017 win over Michael Hunter in Oxon Hill. Maryland, and will be his first fight since ending Tony Bellew’s career in November in a defense of his undisputed cruiserweight championship.
