Usyk Tears Bicep, Takam Fight Off

Oleksandr Usyk’s debut at heavyweight has been postponed, as the former undisputed cruiserweight champion has suffered an injury in training camp.

Usyk, who signed with Matchroom Boxing to help facilitate his move to heavyweight, was set to face former world title challenger Carlos Takam on May 25th at the MGM National Harbor just outside of Baltimore, Maryland.

“Unfortunately, Usyk has suffered a bicep injury and will no longer fight on May 25,” Egis Klimas, Usyk’s manager, confirmed on Tuesday. “A new date for his heavyweight debut will be announced shortly.”

Usyk and Takam were set to be the main event of a card that was set to air on DAZN, which now may be up in the air due to the World Boxing Super Series winner’s bicep injury.
