Usyk Tells Fury To Fight Him In December Or Vacate

Oleksandr Usyk has called on Tyson Fury to fight him on December 23rd, 2023, or otherwise vacate the WBC belt.

The unified heavyweight champion’s comments were made in the aftermath of Fury’s split-decision win over Francis Ngannou. The fight ended up being a lot closer than many had anticipated as Ngannou rose to the occasion on his boxing debut. The former UFC heavyweight champion sent Fury to the canvas in the third round with a left hook on the top of the head as the MMA fighter pressed the action to the end.

Despite getting the win, Fury fell short of saying that the Usyk fight would go ahead in December. The approach was a complete shift from the pre-fight comments where the Gypsy King was clear that Usyk had to commit to the date, having signed the contract.

“I’m expecting it to take place in December, that’s what I’ve been told, so I’ve got no reason to disbelieve it for sure. Usyk has to fight me in December, doesn’t have a choice. He’s signed a contract so if he doesn’t, he’s breached contract and he gets sued, so doesn’t really have a choice,” Fury said

Meanwhile due to the beating Fury took at the hands of Ngannou, Frank Warren expressed doubts about the fight happening this year, saying Fury needs to rest and will in no way be ready to face Usyk on December 23rd, 2023. But given that the undisputed talks had been ongoing for several months with no avail, Usyk called on Fury to commit to the agreement.

“Uncle Frank [Warren] says some sneaky things. We have a contract that says the fight has to take place on Dec 23rd. “Let Fury vacate his title first, then he can take his rest. Tyson, we must fight, we must do it, Dec 23rd. See you in the ring,” Usyk
