Usyk Vacates His IBF Heavyweight Title

Oleksandr Usyk has relinquished his IBF Heavyweight Title.

The move comes after Usyk defeated Tyson Fury in a split decision to become the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. Daniel Dubois becomes the full champion and will face Anthony Joshua in September, subject to an official announcent. The news will disappoint Fury, who was seeking to avenge the loss and become undisputed when they face off in their rematch on December 21. Usyk has now vacated the title.

“Anthony and Daniel, listen – I know the IBF title is important to you. It is my present to you for September 21,” Usyk said

Joshua has reinvented himself after working with Ben Davidson. He has stopped his last two opponents, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou. Meanwhile, Dubois is also having a resurgence. Following his stoppage losses to Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk, there were suggestions that Dubois quit in fights. He took a knee in the Joyce fight, while also failing to get up before the count against Usyk. Since then, Dubois has stopped Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic.

Usyk’s popularity has been growing. Snoop Dogg gave the boxer a chain when the rapper visited him on the set of ‘The Smashing Machine.’ Usyk joins Dwayne Johnson, as the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion will play Ukrainian kickboxer Igor ‘Ice Cold’.

He will film a scene with Johnson, who plays Mark Kerr ( Pride FC Heavyweight Champion and UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion), as they face off at  PRIDE 7 in Yokohama, Japan. The movie will center on Kerr’s problem with addiction to narcotics and painkillers. Snoop Dog arrived to greet him, giving the boxer a chain to show his appreciation.
