Vakhitov Retains Title at GLORY 38
If one were to predict the main event of GLORY 38 based on just fighter size and how each fighter approached the bout initially, the outcome would’ve been different.
But Artem Vakhitov cracked through Saulo Cavalari in the second round of their championship contest, winning by TKO and retaining the GLORY light heavyweight championship at GLORY 38: Chicago.
Vakhitov played it more conservatively in the opening round, as he focused on being defense. He surprisingly stayed more on the inside. Meanwhile, Cavalari, pursued the champion in round one, utilizing low kicks. Vakhitov also got in a few low kicks, but both fighters did well in protecting their faces and upper bodies during the opening round.
Then, Vakhitov unleashed in round two. A minute in, he knocked down Cavalari. Cavalari got up, but he was clearly rocked, and Vakhitov knocked Cavalari down easily again. With about a minute to go, Vakhitov got Cavalari into a corner and unleashed a flurry of punches on him until the referee stepped in.
