Van Lokven Looks To Impress In Rotterdam
One of the fighters looking to stand out at the Karate 1-Premier League event in Rotterdam, is homegrown Dutch kata, Samantha Van Lokven.
“It is a real honour to participate as the only Dutch kata athlete at the Karate 1-Premier League Rotterdam next to the best athletes in the world. I work very hard to reach the highest level,” said the seven-time national champion to the WKF official website.
Van Lokven is one of the cornerstones of the Dutch team which features 20 karatekas, who look for glory in their home nation.
The Dutch team looks to bounce back from the 2017 iteration, where the Dutch team only took home one medal, as Geoffrey Berens won gold in the Male Kumite at -60kg. Van Lovken looks to change her fortunes
“As my sensei and I always say: it’s lonely on the top. But this is my dream and I will do anything to make it happen. I don’t give up! This time at the Karate 1-Premier League Rotterdam I will get the support from my mother who is coming to watch. So that would be very nice!”, said Van Lokven.
The Karate 1-Premier League Rotterdam is the third stop of the season of Karate’s first-class series of international tournaments. The competition starts on Friday and will conclude on Sunday with the finals and the crowning of the new champions.
