Vargas Looks To Bounce Back Against Herrera
Jessie Vargas will return to the ring on December 15th, following a 13 month stint away from the ring. In his last fight, Vargas lost a spirited decision to Manny Pacquiao and is looking to regain the position he held in the welterweight division prior to the Pacquiao fight.
Vargas stands across from Aaron Herrera in his first fight under the Premier Boxing Champions banner after walking away from his long time relationship with Top Rank. Vargas previously held titles at both 140 and 147 pounds.
“Of course I want to be one of the top welterweights in the world and I want to conquer the division. I want to regain my title again and that is my mindset at the moment. I have my advisers Lupe Valencia and Al Haymon to guide my career and I am sure they are looking for bigger and better opportunities but first we have to get through Aaron Herrera on December 15th,” Vargas explained.
Herrera has faced many of the sport’s top prospects and Vargas does not expect this to be an easy fight, and wants Herrera to lay it all on the line.
In a recent interview, Vargas told BoxingScene.com he is interested in facing WBA/WBC welterweight champion Keith Thurman, IBF champion Errol Spence as well as former two-division champion Danny Garcia, only if he is able to get through Herrera.
“I expect an entertaining fight for the fans… I want to make sure they get their money’s worth and that is what they are going to get. There will be two warriors in the ring that always come to fight and what I mean by that is that we won’t back down. Herrera isn’t known to back down and neither am I so it will be an entertaining match up.”
