Vasiliy Lomachenko Thinks Bout With Teofimo Lopez Should’ve Been Scored A Draw
Vasiliy Lomachenko has looked over the tape and he believes his bout with Teofimo Lopez should’ve been scored a draw.
Back in October, Lomachenko and Lopez went one-on-one for multiple lightweight world titles. Going into the bout, Lomachenko held the WBA, WBO, The Ring, and WBC (Franchise) Titles. Lopez had the IBF gold. In an upset, Lopez pulled off the unanimous decision victory. After the fight, Lomachenko insisted that he felt he won the fight.
Fast forward to May 2021 and “Loma” is changing his tune, albeit slightly. Speaking to ESPN’s Mark Kriegel, Lomachenko said that after watching the fight a few more times, he has concluded that it should’ve been ruled a draw (h/t Media Reportage).
“My opinion now after watching (the fight) a lot of times, my opinion it was a draw.”
Lomachenko will be taking on Masayoshi Nakatani on June 26. Nakatani is credited with giving Teofimo Lopez some problems despite losing via unanimous decision. Lomachenko explained why he wanted to share the ring with Nakatani.
“It’s the best choice for me. I want to compare myself with this guy (Lopez). He was close with (Lopez) in their fight. He’s a great opponent for me.”
Lomachenko has never lost two fights in a row. Time will tell if he can avoid back-to-back losses.
