Vasiliy Lomachenko Vs. George Kambosos Jr In Works For First Half Of 2022, Top Rank President Says
Vasiliy Lomachenko could be just a few steps away from redemption.
And that redemption is regaining the world lightweight titles he used to don. Top Rank president Todd Duboef said they’re working on it.
“Lomachenko has made it very evident to us, and to his team, that [Kambosos is] the fight he would like. We are amicably trying to have discussions with them for a fight in the first half of next year,” DuBoef told Sky Sports.
“He has come back with two brilliant wins and he never says no to any opponents. He wants his titles back.”
Lomachenko, the former WBO, IBF and WBA lightweight champion, made it clear that he’s open to fighting George Kambosos Jr., who is coming off a major upset win against Teofimo Lopez back in November.
The underdog win has stirred the pot in the lightweight division, but Lomachenko said he’s more than willing to make it happen.
Lomachenko and Commey both lost their belts to Lopez.
Lomachenko, of Ukraine, recently defeated Ghana’s Richard Commey at Madison Square Garden via unanimous decision and in dominant fashion.
Prior to and after the win, Lomachenko was asked about his chance to regain the titles.
“I want to fight him [Kambosos Jr] but the only question is, does he want to fight me?” he said.
