Venue Confirmed For Canelo Alvarez vs. Callum Smith

The venue for Canelo Alvarez vs. Callum Smith has been announced.

Canelo vs. Smith was announced earlier this week. The WBA (Super) Super-Middleweight Title fight is set to take place on December 19. Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn will be promoting the contest.

With Canelo being boxing’s biggest star, it was hard to imagine him doing battle inside an empty arena. That’s why Matchroom Boxing’s latest announcement hardly comes as a surprise. Canelo vs. Smith will take place inside the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Here is the venue announcement.

Canelo hasn’t competed since November 2, 2019. He captured the WBO Light-Heavyweight Championship with a knockout victory over Sergey Kovalev in the 11th round. Canelo vacated the gold in an effort to move back down to the super-middleweight division.

As for Smith, he hasn’t been in action since November 23, 2019. He successfully defended his gold against John Ryder via unanimous decision. The victory improved his perfect pro boxing record to 27-0.

Canelo is an early betting favorite at -400 according to Odds Checker. While he is likely to remain the favorite, it’ll be interesting to see if that gap closes as we get closer to fight night.
